Claudia Pengus
the quintessential Caribbean haute couturier designer

FOR many people Claudia Pegus is the quintessential local designer, a producer of uncompromised indigenous design and flair.

Her style is always elegant and never run of the mill. A fashion designer for over twenty years, Claudia Pegus learnt her trade in Europe, apprenticed to couturiers in England, France, Germany, Spain and Switzerland. She has successfully woven the art of fashion design with
the business of fashion. She is one of the leaders of the Caribbean designers who have shown their creations through the chain of islands and into the United States, Canada and Europe.

As a Consultant she has worked locally and internationally for private groups and governmental agencies in setting up and the restructing of retail and export oriented companies in the fashion industry. Dedicated to the industry and with a global vision, she recognises the importance of forging strategic alliances between regional and international designers.

Claudia now operates a highly successful business located at #4 Warren Street, Woodbrook supplying both one-of-a-kind and ready-to-wear
fashion garments to wholesale and retail clients worldwide. Her vision and work are dedicated to the making of a transcendent Caribbean person, one who can move effortlessly in any place. Her vision has always been global. Her designs are challenging.

Her women's lines are feminine on a number of levels, casual to elegant, Caribbean hot to establishment couture. Because she is innovative she can conceptualize and execute a transformation. A new you, the look, the image you may have dreamed about.

There is a pureness in her designs, a clarity of line, the whisper of silk, the softness of georgette. The slow sensuous feel of fabric molded to you, a fusion with form. Or, the crispness of cuffs and collars—sleek suiting— or the sophicated man or woman, anytime anywhere...

The freshness of linen, the coolness of cotton is reflected in the CPFS line. Cool, casual, chic but always subtly sophisticated.
Each year Claudia creates two collections for the Carnival season and this year is no different: the premiere collection for the local clientele and the second collection for the foreign divas, who incidentally comprise about 85 per cent of her total clientele. This year's collection will specifically be targeting summer 2003. Interested customers can contact the Atelier in Woodbrook which is recognisable with its distinctive green awning and fabulous sculpted fish pool at the entrance.
Claudia's Atelier features a plush showroom full of her beautifully cut pieces for sale. Whilst there a customer can also order any type of interpretive garment. Whatever your personal style, be it daring, dramatic and sensuous or reserved, understated and classic, whether man or woman.
Claudia's team will take all measurements and the designer will transform the idea into glamour. It is her ability to combine in one piece a genius creative Caribbean concept of clothing with international elegance.
This is her trademark. Each Pegus piece manages to contain this flair whilst retaining all the solid technical skill and detailing of any of the best international designers. It is for this reason that Pegus has become an internationally demanded designer.

Her collections are sold in Mustique, The Bahamas, Martinique, Barbados, Antigua, St Vincent, Bequai, Grenada, St Lucia and Tobago. Private orders are done for clients in London, Germany, California, New York, Miami, Washington, Aspen, Toronto, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, Mustique,
Bermuda and St Lucia.
Claudia Pegus was born 40-something years ago in Palo Seco, South Trinidad, where she lived for only five years. She left Trinidad for Europe in 1983, where she worked with some old tailors in Barcelona, Spain, learning how to craft everything by hand using the traditional methods.
From there, Pegus travelled throughout the rest of Spain, Switzerland, France and eventually to Cologne, Germany, where she lived and operated a small studio.

This February Claudia Pegus' designs will be featured on the cover of the upcoming issue of She magazine featuring Miss Super Model of the Caribbean in a gown designed for one of the contestants at the Ms Trinidad and Tobago/Ms Universe Pageant.

A mock sample of the cover can be viewed on Claudia's site. The gown was subsequently sold to a special client and worn at the famous Cotton House Hotel Old Year's night dinner and dance in the exotic island of Mustique, resort of the rich and famous!
Another magazine featuring the Resort Collection 2003 in its premier edition, is Shacbeau, a new fashion magazine coming out of Barbados.

On March 22nd, Claudia will be teaming up with French Milliner, Corinne Basberg to show her 2004 Evening Collection in Miami at the Miami Fashion Week as part of the Fashion Week of the Americas. The show is one of the premiere fashion shows on the North American Fashion calendar and is attended by the top designers of North and South America.
On April 6 and 7 Claudia will then be showing at the New York Fashion Week another premiere event. In March Claudia has been asked to dress a major Hollywood actor at the 2003 Image Awards in Los Angeles. In addition, in April she will be back in Mustique showing to a selected audience at the prestigious Cotton House Hotel. In May she should be showing in both Washington and St Lucia at the famous St Lucia Jazz Festival.
