Caribbean Fashionweek after-party was - THE BOMB

By NATHELIE TAYLOR, STAR Writer

IT HAD ALL the makings of an awesome party - great music, a limitless supply of liquor, a clear and beautiful night and gorgeous people having fun. It was 'Glitz', the 'Caribbean Fashionweek' (CFW) after-party held at Villa Ronai in cool Stony Hill, St. Andrew on Saturday.

For Pulse Model Agency and the participants in CFW, the event was a tremendously fun way of ending what had been another great night of Caribbean haute couture at the Hilton Hotel in New Kingston earlier that evening.

For the patrons, the party allowed them an up-close scrutiny of high-profile models such as Nadine Willis, the designers behind the creative process like Trinidad's Claudia Pegus and those who keep the industry running such as Kinglsey Cooper, Pulse's CEO and the executive director of CFW.

These celebs of the fashion industry easily made themselves available to guests as they gracefully wove through the crowd. The patrons were further ensured a look at their favourite catwalk personalities and designers through screens placed at the side of the upper level dance floor. All night these screens treated patrons to black and white outlines and full colour replays of portions of previously-held fashion shows that highlighted the stunning work of designers like Biggy, DiMarsh and Uzuri.

Chic outfit

Quite like the CFW event that had just ended, a great sense of fashion prevailed at Glitz, the air practically boiled with the high style and sophistication brought by patrons as they stepped into the venue, with each seeming to out do his or her predecessor. The ladies especially were smartly dressed in cool, chic outfits which were not just stylish but were adorned with accessories that gave them that special personal taste.

Flowing or clingy, long or short, each outfit seemed to have been made for the person wearing it and patrons all wore their styles with a great level of confidence.

Everyone was in a no-holds-barred party mood. From early in the night the Smirnoff bar on the lower level was surrounded by guests eagerly awaiting a taste of this beverage. This area eventually became the 'convergence zone' for guests immediately after they had arrived, an area that emitted a buzz of lively conversation that almost competed with the strong beats of songs like Shaggy's Sexy Lady and She's Blazing by TOK.

However, guests simply could not resist the lure of the dance floor and by 12:45 a.m. many had made their way to the top level where they danced to their favourite tunes. Lovely lasses and handsome hunks shimmied their well-toned, flawless bodies to each song. Gucci girl Nadine for instance, who admitted to having a great time at the party, danced like crazy even though she had to hold the long tail of her interesting Claudia Pegus - designed black dress high while on the dance floor.

Unleashed energy

Partying like there was no tomorrow, patrons shed inhibitions and engaged in dance moves. By 1:30 a.m. there was a tangible crackling of unleashed energy as patrons awaited that right song that would make them 'bruk out'.

As if sensing the anticipation Code Red let loose a slew of crowd favourites such as Beyoncé and Sean Paul's Baby Boy and 50 Cent's P.I.M.P.

To the DJ's urge of "If the dress a fi yuh, walk out. All if the hair piece a fi yuh, walk out!", women boldly danced forward into the 'video light' and stayed there, revelling in the attention.

There was a change in tempo at about 2:00 a.m. from hardcore dancehall and hip hop tunes to '70s and '80s selections which further intensified the party mood. The guest never faltered in their dancing and were even more excited by these songs. Interestingly, Kingsley Cooper was seen 'getting his groove on' and if the current success of his models and CFW is any indication, he had every right to dance.
